NFPA 2, Hydrogen Technologies Code 2023 edition establishes mandatory requirements for the installation, storage, use, and handling of hydrogen in both compressed gas and cryogenic liquid forms. Coverage spans hydrogen generation, storage systems, piping and hoses, vent systems, dispensing equipment, vehicle fueling, laboratory use, combustion applications, deflagration and explosion protection, and cargo transport. As hydrogen adoption accelerates across industrial, transportation, and residential applications, the 2023 edition adds dedicated requirements for home fueling appliances, mobile fueling operations, and hydrogen-powered industrial trucks — areas not fully addressed in prior editions.
Who Uses NFPA 2
Required by fire protection engineers, mechanical engineers, building inspectors, AHJ officials, facility managers, hydrogen system installers, and anyone responsible for the design, installation, and operation of hydrogen storage and fueling systems across industrial, commercial, and residential applications.
What's New in the 2023 Edition
The 2023 edition expands coverage for home fueling, mobile fueling, industrial trucks, and cargo transport, including:
- New requirements for appliance access and installation of home fueling appliances (HFAs).
