About Code Book Store
Codes, standards, and the reference books that go with them — shipped to people who need the right edition on a specific job.
Code Book Store sells one thing: the codes and standards that professionals are held to. NFPA fire and electrical codes, ICC building codes, and selected ASHRAE and IEEE titles. No general construction books, no software, no subscriptions.
Our customers are electrical contractors, fire protection and mechanical engineers, architects, building officials, plan reviewers, inspectors, trade schools, and the purchasing departments that buy for all of them. A large share of our orders come in as purchase orders from municipalities, universities, and state agencies — and we're set up to handle that paperwork without a phone call.
Every Book Is the Real Thing
Every publication we ship is an authentic edition, printed and released by the organization that wrote it. We don't sell scanned reprints, print-on-demand knockoffs, or resold PDFs.
That distinction carries more weight here than in most retail, because a code book is legal text. An unauthorized reproduction may be missing errata, may carry content altered somewhere in the copy chain, and puts your firm on the wrong side of copyright if anyone ever audits your library. Inspectors and plan reviewers work from published editions. You should be working from the same book they are.
Getting the Right Edition
This is where most of our email comes from, so it's worth saying plainly: the newest edition is not always the correct one.
Jurisdictions adopt on their own schedule. Your state may still enforce the 2020 NEC while the 2023 sits on the shelf, and individual cities often amend on top of the state adoption. Buying ahead of your jurisdiction can leave you with a book you can't cite.
If you're unsure what applies to you, our How Editions Work page covers adoption cycles and how to check your jurisdiction. Or send us your state and what you're working on, and we'll tell you what we know.
