NFPA 24, Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances 2022 edition establishes minimum requirements for the installation of private fire service mains supplying sprinkler systems, water spray systems, foam systems, and private hydrants. Coverage includes pipe materials and joints, underground installation, valves, backflow preventers, fire department connections, post indicator valves, hydrants, and flushing and testing requirements. The standard is the primary reference for fire protection engineers, designers, and contractors responsible for the underground water supply infrastructure feeding building fire protection systems.
Who Uses NFPA 24
Required by fire protection engineers, sprinkler system designers and contractors, civil engineers, AHJ officials, and inspectors responsible for the design, installation, and acceptance testing of private fire service main systems in commercial, industrial, institutional, and campus environments.
What's New in the 2022 Edition
The 2022 edition adds scope clarifications, new AHJ-approved connection provisions, alternate valve placement criteria, and updated flushing requirements, including:
